Research & program evaluation
Demonstrate Knowledge and Skills in Research and Program Evaluation
Introduction
“Research and program evaluation involves knowledge of research design, statistics, measurement, varied data collection and analysis techniques, and program evaluation methods sufficient for understanding research and interpreting data in applied settings. One will demonstrate skills in evaluating and applying research as a foundation for service delivery and, in collaboration with others, using various techniques and technology resources for data collection, measurement, analysis, and program evaluation to support effective practices at the individual, group, and/or systems levels” (NASP Domains Blueprint, 2000).
Reflection
Research and program evaluation are important to see if interventions and programs for students are effective in the school. Collecting and analyzing data for programs and services demonstrates whether or not the program is working in the school. At my internship, utilized an evidence-based program to aid in a counseling case. Within the intermediate school the RULER program is utilized as a social-emotional support for students to better assess where they fall and how much they can access the curriculum. I plan on helping an anxious student to better describe the feelings he is experiencing and chart them using a mood meter. I also plan on utilizing an evidence-based counseling program for anxious teens in order to help him identify emotions, verbalize what he is feeling, and utilize a learned coping strategy. I have included a counseling case study to show how I worked with the student and how I tracked his progress.
As part of my practicum in Walpole, I conducted research on the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based intervention for students. My research involved implementing a mental health, mindfulness group for students who have been screened to show high levels of anxiety. I have included my research paper on the results of my study.
